Classroom Facilitator

Chef Dominique “Dom” Black is a self taught professional chef from Detroit who has over 13 years in the culinary industry.

Not only is she the Chef and Owner of Plated Catering, she has worked at some of the most notable institutions and restaurants in Detroit such as Vista Maria, DMC, Beaumont, River Bistro and Coop Detroit with Hour Detroit’s 2021 Restaurant of the Year awardee, Celebrity Chef Maxcel Hardy. Chef Dom started Plated Catering in January 2020, but quickly had to close due to the global pandemic. This prompted Chef Dom to quickly pivot. She started selling meals to family and friends and her clientele shifted by referrals within a matter of weeks. The people of Detroit and surrounding areas traveled for her weekly pop-ups where she served her signature dishes such as stuffed crab salmon pasta to go, which went viral on social media. Plated Catering specializes in providing food cooked from the heart for celebrations, corporate, social gatherings, and personal cheffing. Chef Dom also works at Make Food Not Waste, a non-profit that saves food from Detroit landfills, cooks 1200 nutritious delicious meals, and passes it out to the community weekly. If you ever get a chance to volunteer at Make Food Not Waste, you can often hear Chef Dom saying her tagline, “Hook ‘em’ up. They’re hungry”. This expresses her love to provide food to the highest standard no matter who is receiving it.

When she isn’t creating in the kitchen, Chef Dom enjoys traveling, reading, attending spoken word nights, and spending time with her dog, Zorrah.
